New River 1st VP Attends Oscar Night!

Dr. Charles Knapp, MC, USA-Ret.

* New River Chapter 1st Vice President, Dr. Charles Knapp of Helton, NC was in Beverly Hills, CA for the 2013 Academy Awards Gala recently.

* A retired U.S. Army colonel, Charles is consulting producer for the motion picture “Hacksaw Ridge,” which tells the true story of World War II Medal of Honor winner Desmond Doss, the first conscientious objector to be honored with America’s highest military award for valor above and beyond the call of duty in the face of enemy fire.

* COL Knapp is also chairman of the Desmond Doss Council of the Georgia Cumberland Association in Calhoun, GA, which holds the life story, intellectual property, book and film rights and memorabilia in trust for the late Desmond Doss, who died in 2006.

* Dr. Knapp has previously been involved in productions related to Desmond Doss, notably the 2004 documentary “The Conscientious Objector.”

* "Hacksaw Ridge" is currently in in preproduction by Walden Media. and is being produced by Bill Mechanic, former CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment.

COL Knapp shared, "What a treat it was to be the guest of agent, Gabe Videla, D"Artagnan Entertainment and the producers of the movie, "Hacksaw Ridge." Mary, Charles wife, said she saw me on ABC's coverage and "would recognize my bald head anywhere . . . "

Charles added, "Hacksaw Ridge was the name GIs gave to the battle for Okinawa's Maeda Escarpment in WWII and the incredible and heroic actions of aid-man PFC Desmond Doss, for which he was decorated with the Medal of Honor. It is a story of the intersection of faith and patriotism."

Now in the eleventh year towards getting Doss' story told, COL Knapp works with a few other patient but zealous compatriots on the Desmond Doss Council of the Georgia Cumberland Association.

MOAA New Chapter Member Recruitment Program 2013

MOAA New Chapter Member Recruitment Program

2013

* The Military Officers Association of America has implemented a new program that is intended to support Chapters with increasing their membership numbers.

* The Give Me 10 (GMT) efforts of the past several years has been discontinued effective January 2013. Although the GMT program was successful in raising the total number of MOAA members, it still did not address the lack of growth at the chapter level...this new effort is a means to reach out to the over 300K MOAA members who do not have a chapter affiliation.

Open and read the attached documents from MOAA that deal with the planning and implementation of the new Chapter Recruitment effort.

In addition to more fully describing the programs goals and means to reward increasing chapter membership (2013 Membership Program), there is also a description of the new membership levels and benefits (2013 New Membership Model).
